Audience

  1. Why is audience Important?
The audience is important, for example if the music artist creates a music video that doesn't keep the audience happy then they will not even want to watch the video. The audience is the main reason the provider does things for, if their audience isn't happy then there isn't any point. This is how the artist or provider could lose money or sales or even the audience as a whole.
  2. Explain the term mass audience?
This is a large type of audience that the media or product or whatever it is, is designed for. An example of this would be something like the I phone which is for a very large amount of audience. Even the Apple company itself aims it at everyone and anyone who can use their products.
  3. Explain the term niche audience? This is when a specific media product is aimed at a small group of audience for example a fishing magazine or a golf magazine because they are not the type of stuff that everyone would look at, only a minority would.
  4.  How does media shape an audiences perceptions of the world?
The media can shape an audiences perception in many ways, it could be in a positive or a negative way. An example of a negative perception was when two ten year old boys kidnapped a two year old baby boy called James Bulger who was tortured, abducted and then brutally murdered. The two ten year old's were inspired by the movie called Child's Play 3. They could also inspire people to do good and become successful, for example the rapper and multimillionaire Jay-Z wrote a book called Decoded and this could have inspired people to do what he did to become successful in the hip-hop industry and also a successful businessma

  5. How powerful are the media in influencing the ideas and behavior of the audience? The media is very powerful in the way they can influence each individuals behavior, they are able to manipulate their thought processes and make them to exactly what the media want. The audiences are basically the puppets of the media as the media are the puppeteers. For example when the media publish videos and adverts for people to use things like wrinkle reducing creams they will make the audience feel like they are aging, so they would then want to go and get the age wrinkling cream to use, to make themselves feel better about them.
  6. Explain the Blulmer and Katz theory? (The four areas)This theory was adapted from Laswells theory in1978. This theory looks at the four areas such as information, personal identity, social interaction and also entertainment. Information- this is the general interest, curiosity and seeking advice type of films, videos or even the internet etc. An example of this could be Google which nearly has everything on it. Personal identity- this is the identification in characters and also the insights of ones self. Social interactions- listening to conversations, finding out information about others and real life events and situations. An example of this is social networking sites such as Facebook and twitter. Entertainment- escaping relaxing and emotional release. Things that do this are soaps such as EastEnders or Hollyoaks that let you switch off and release stress for the time being.
